2. What data we collect
- Identification & contact data: first name, surname, email address, phone number.
- Property data: property type, ownership status, postcode, full address, current energy bill range, existing solar status, installation timeline.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, UTM campaign parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content), gclid, fbclid, msclkid, ttclid.
- Behavioural data: pages viewed, quiz steps completed, headline variant shown, time on page (collected via Taboola, Meta, Google and Microsoft pixels — only with your consent through our cookie banner).
3. How we use your data and our lawful basis
- To match you with an MCS-certified installer who can provide a free quote for solar panels — lawful basis: consent (you provide explicit consent by ticking the box and submitting the quiz).
- To respond to your enquiry by email or phone — lawful basis: consent.
- To improve the website and measure ad campaign performance — lawful basis: legitimate interests (anonymous analytics) and consent (where cookies are involved).
- To comply with legal obligations, including ICO record-keeping and ASA advertising standards.
4. Who we share your data with
By submitting the quiz, you consent to your contact details being shared with one or more MCS-certified solar installation companies in our partner network so they can contact you with a quote. Partners are bound by data-processing agreements and may only use your data to provide the quote you requested.
We also use the following processors, who handle data on our instructions only:
- Google LLC — address autocomplete, analytics, advertising (Google Ads).
- Taboola Inc. — advertising attribution.
- Meta Platforms Inc. — Facebook/Instagram advertising attribution.
- Microsoft Corporation — Bing/Microsoft advertising attribution.
- Cookiebot (Cybot A/S) — cookie consent management.
5. International transfers
Some of our processors are based outside the UK, including in the EEA and the USA. Where data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on UK International Data Transfer Agreements or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK Addendum.
6. How long we keep your data
- Lead enquiry data: 24 months from submission, then deleted or anonymised.
- Technical/analytics data: 14 months (default Google Analytics retention).
- Records demonstrating consent: 6 years (UK GDPR record-keeping).
7. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate data.
- Request erasure ("the right to be forgotten").
- Restrict or object to processing.
- Data portability.
- Withdraw consent at any time (this will not affect lawful processing before withdrawal).
- Complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by phoning 0303 123 1113.
